Yes, yes, I know. I’ve been neglecting you. All four of you. But you see enough of me over in the Conversation section, don’t you?
However, if you’re one of the few folks who can’t access the Convo section on ChinesePod, or you just follow my Chinese language exploits through this here blog, I invite you to click on the picture above and see China through my eyes. I took over 3,000 photos while I was there, and I think these are the best of them. I hope you enjoy them.
But let’s talk language for a minute, shall we?
I spent entire days talking in Chinese. I sat in cabs and got where I wanted to go. I ordered food and drink. I chatted up waitresses and business men. I’m sure I sounded like a retarded fourth grader while I was doing these things, but I did it. I spoke and was understood. That’s nothing short of amazing, if you ask me, and I owe it all to the program here at ChinesePod. I’d rank myself as a low Intermediate learner at this point, but I felt an awful lot like a Newbie at times.
That being said, I’ll confess that I’ve spent too much time chatting with other users and not enough time digging into the lessons. Gotta change that, and fast!
How about you kids? How are you getting on out there?

Thanks for sharing the photos. Good way to document for my family that I’m still alive.
I really dig this photo of you:
That was a good day, man.
It was a good day. I’m looking forward to showing you the Beijing I love sometime. I think you’re 北方 on the inside.
I’m looking forward to that, too. Just need the pieces to fall in place.
Hi, Frank.
I just want to tell you once again how lovely your photos are, and to thank you for sharing them with the community, all four of us : ) Seriously, it’s remarkable the magnetic power CPod has on many of us and clearly that adhesiveness increases each time a poddie shows up on site and shares their experiences. I can’t wait till my turn!
Also, I had emailed you while you were there in SH, and perhaps you didn’t see it amidst the flurry of activity. But, I want to know how you got around and how the cell phone worked for you. RJBerki gave me some good advice, and since you were just there, I thought I’d ask you.
Hiya, Doc! I’m sorry I missed your e-mail! Did you e-mail me through the CPod site, or my personal address? Not that it matters, but I’m curious.
Anyway, I’m using a simple little Sanyo phone and I have Sprint as my carrier. I was able to make calls to my family back here in the States, but it was utterly useless for making calls in-country. Luckily, all the calls I needed to make were local calls from my hotel so I used that.
While I’m thinking about it, you should listen to the latest Dear Amber show. I think they just covered this, too!
I can’t wait to hear about your own experiences in China and at the ChinesePod offices. How would you feel about doing a guest turn here on the Newbie Blog to share your story?
Awesome photos Frank. Btw, who was that actor in one of your photos that had been on screen with Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and Chuck Norris. And is Steven Seagal still eating his heart out?
Where’d you take the photo?
Moloch … I’m gonna say Robert Wall.
nice pictures, Frank, though a little redundant. I agree with you about working more on the lessons than on chatting with other poddies. The lessons are great and studding them is the best way to learn.
Hey Frnak,
Light, camera and action… you got all of that in your photos, great job, you captured everything about China and then some, thank you for sharing it with us.You should not worry about falling behind your Chinese lessons, what you just experienced is the most important part of learning process… Cheers
Brent
Hi Frank
I had emailed you through CPod’s user profile details. After I return (3/12) I’d be honored to write something for your blog. I will have very little time in Shanghai (36 hours) since I’m on a tour. But, I will make the most of my time there : )
ok so I am not sure where the heck this took me, but while I was on the web looking for a recipe for Nam Sod, I found your you tube video for the recipe and just wanted to say that I loved the presentation. Do you have others?
Thanks
Belinda
Belinda — Thanks for the kind words! I’m afraid that was a one-shot show, just to try out my new camera equipment last year. It sure was fun to produce, though!
With all the great pictures on Flickr, I almost forgot to keep checking your blog… (ALMOST!)
I’m actually going into photo withdrawals over here. Want. More. China. Pics!
