Hi Frank! I’m sorry I scooped you but we’re all entitled to a lucky punch once in a while;-) Thanks for a new movie review. I understand how much time and effort goes into making a podcast, especially when you’re not doing it professionally. Now I have to get my ass down to the library and see if they have any of the movies so I can watch them for myself. :-)

Ah, Frank. This is just the best movie! Don’t fall for the sequel though. You are such a cynic even when you like the movie. :)

I love the theme song, it’s the best I’ve heard of Cantonese singing. And my 2 year old daughter loves it, it relaxes her, so that’s good for me.

Watched a pretty good HK movie tonight called Exiled. If I’m not watching wirework, I’m watching triads.

    Cheers,
    Phoebe

    Hi Frank,
Thanks for the review, I placed this one first on my queu list.
I just watched a movie called “Driving Miss Wealthy”, a very light hearted Hong Kong movie, subject matter is a silly one but perfect for people who are learning Chinese.
    Keep up the good work
    Cheers
    Brent

Lunetta - Thanks for stopping by! I know you’re new to these parts and finding this blog isn’t the easiest thing in the world. :-) Don’t worry about the scoop. I cried myself to sleep for a few nights and then I was over it. ;-)

Phoebe - A cynic?! Me? Really? You think? Ha! Okay. I’ll shy away from the sequel. Is Exiled in Mandarin?

Brent - Cool, man! Thanks for commenting! Let me know what you think of “Bride” once you’ve seen it. There were a few joke grenades in the podcast that you won’t get until you see the movie. :-)

Just wondering, where do you get all these movies from? Do you have a local Chinese movie store? :)

    I get mine from Netflix.

Bazza - I get mine from Netflix, too. They’re crap about properly identifying the language, though. Be warned.

Do you get them delivered or watch online?

  9. 9 Frank Aug 2nd, 2007 at 4:04 am

Delivered, sir. The only way to fly. (I mean that literally. I’m on a Mac. They don’t afford me that option.)

Looks like they only deliver within the US though.

Bollocks. Do you have a similar company over there?

I bought ‘Dragon Tiger Gate’ today hoping to get a bit of Mandarin listening practise in but it looks like it’s in Cantonese only. It doesn’t say anywhere on the case, except that it has English subtitles.
Distributed by Mandarin Films so I just assumed.

Looks like a good movie though and I suppose it’s time I got around to learn Cantonese as well. ;)

Ugh. I really hate when that happens. I find that the listening practice really helps me out a lot. I’ve been noticing a real difference when I listen to the Qing Wen episodes.

Dragon Tiger Gate is very good, it has some fantastic kung fu sequences. I think I picked up a bit of Cantonese from it as well. :)

Coolio. I’ll definitely check it out!
