Wo bing le.

Two words: air filter.

Say it with me. Air filter. Good.

It’s such a little thing, isn’t it? Such a small, tiny thing. Until you don’t have one. I work in an office with no windows, no ventilation, and no escape from the germs we my co-workers keep passing back and forth. It’s an incubator for pestilence and disease, I tell you!

I’ve had the same cold since 2005. Every time I think I feel better, every time I kick the bug, it mutates and comes back to me. It’s now a Super Virus. I swear I’m like Patient Zero over here. I have to travel around in one of those Bubble Boy suits. One wrong sneeze and I could wipe out a Third World nation and who wants that on their conscience? Not me, that’s for sure!

To sum up: I have been sick. I even missed a phone call with my Octagon counselor night before last. Bad. Bad.

Anyway, I have a three-day weekend ahead of me. I plan to spend much of it recuperating and reviewing my lessons. I hope you’re all doing well out there.

Xin nian kuai le!

Frank, there’s a remote chance that there’s another explanation.

I had “the same cold that keeps coming back” and like you I blamed it on people bringing germs to work. Then my mother came to town for a visit and got struck down with something similar. It was an awful illness, like a bad head cold and feverish and weak for days. She insisted it wasn’t a cold or flu, but hay fever, set off by certain chemical allergies, she’s suffered from it all her life and she can be bedridden for days with it. It looked like the flu to me, and then I caught it from her with exactly the same symptoms. Haw haw, come on, how can you catch hay fever? It must be the flu.

So I marched off to the doctor to settle the matter. Yep, he said, we’ve both got hay fever. So this recurring cold, which also had the same symptoms, I should not have been blaming on my colleagues’ germs, but on their stupid perfume.

Yours might not be hay fever, but it’s more likely to have some interesting explanation than to be simply a successful re-attack of the same germs if you’re otherwise healthy. Worth exploring anyway. Don’t worry, how ever it works out, you can still blame your colleagues. ;-)

Enjoy your study weekend, and xin nian kuai le!

Hey there, AuntySue! Thanks for taking the time to comment!

I do have allergies, that’s true. I wonder if that might be the case. On the other hand, there are five of us in that little room and we’ve all been sick since the late Jurassic period. LOL

    Frank,

whatever cause your “cold” has, I wish you get well soon.

    新年快乐,恭喜发财!

Oh, and just came to my mind… Are you sure that the office you are in doesn’t have mold? That would cause cold-like symptoms, headache etc… And that might also explain why all of you are sick.

    Just a thought :)

Aha! Maybe my Chinese friends are right in thinking that the aircon gives you germs.

I have a plan: I will send you a hello kitty SARS mask which you can wear to keep germs out oK? ;)

Looks like your blog has a spam infection as well. The Cpod spam filter seems pretty useless.

Kaixin - Thanks for the well-wishes! I’m on the mend, but not quite up to snuff yet. I appreciate your thoughtful concern, though!

Colleen - Can I get a box full of those? Please? :-)

Bazza - Utterly. Useless. You’re only seeing the tip of the iceberg. I routinely delete anywhere from 10-40 spam comments a DAY. It’s insane.

The Akismet plugin seems to work well, I haven’t had any spam on my blog yet, but that maybe because the spammers haven’t found it yet.
