Ladies and gentlemen, I give you select images of Tai Kang Lu.
Tai Kang Lu was a really hip little neighborhood that Aric took me to while I was in Shanghai. It was the coolest little place. Totally off the beaten path. I never would have found my way there were it not for him, but I’ll go back there in a heartbeat when I make my triumphant return to Shanghai.
When we arrived, Aric had some business to attend to, so I was flying solo for an hour or so, putting a sticky beak into all the shops and having small conversations with the locals. It’s true what you’ve heard, by the way—people in China are really happy to help you out if you make an effort to speak their language.
I picked up some phrases that day that are already lost to me. There’s something to be said for immersion learning, but I’ll make a bigger effort to catalogue my new phrases so that I don’t lose them next time!
The above images are taken from my larger stash of China pics. They may not be of interest to everyone, but feel free to have a look at the whole mess if you’re curious! Oh, and be warned… I take pictures of every hotel I stay in. It helps me to remember the ambience of the city.
Enjoy!

Have been waiting on these! Well done, sir - now, come back to us.
Aric is secretly plotting to kidnap you from Florida and bring you back to Shanghai! Don’t resist! hehe….:D
Excellent set of photos. What the hotel shown on page 1? Is it near ChinesePod HQ? I need somewhere stay in October.
Bazza - don’t tease…are you really coming to see us?
Aric - Hang in there, brother. I shall return! (Glad you liked the pics, man.)
Eileen - If this is him keeping a secret, I’m glad he’s not in charge of national security. Hehe. But I’m glad to hear you wouldn’t be too opposed to seeing me again. Makes me all tingly.
The Mighty Bazza - The hotel at the top of the page is in Hong Kong, but the one in the middle was the Jin Jiang Tower in Shanghai. It’s about a 40 minute walk to ChinesePod HQ (and it’s well worth the walk. You get to see a very nice cross-section of Shanghai that way.).
Yeah Aric, I’m planning come over for a week starting 22nd October.
I’ll probably be travelling alone though, so I might be hanging around ChinesePod alot.
