Level 1, Lesson 2: Related Lessons

It’s Wednesday again, and here at the ChinesePod Integrated Chinese Blog, that means more related lessons! The common element here is family, but let’s do it dialogue by dialogue again.

Dialogue 1: Looking at a Family Photo

Don’t go to China without a picture of your family. It’s not just for looking at when you’re feeling homesick, though… it’s also for practicing Chinese! Just having it somewhere visible is sure to elicit questions from your Chinese friends. Be prepared.

  • Newbie - Identifying Family Members The setup here is very similar to the IC dialogue: looking at a photo, very simply identify the family members in it.
  • Newbie - All in the Family Using the vocabulary you’ve learned up to now, you should be able to follow most of this dialogue and guess what you don’t know.

Diaologue II: Asking about Someone’s Family

This dialogue talks about how many members are in one’s family, and what jobs they do.

The lessons above and Integrated Chinese Lessons 1 and 2 overlap very nicely. You’ll be surprised at how much you can understand if you broaden your studies a bit. As always, questions and comments are welcome.

This is very useful stuff and I wish it was available to me when I began learning the language 9 months ago. However I only discovered it by accident after rummaging around on the weblog for a while. Perhaps this is why there are so few comments on the lessons. (Either that or Chinesepod has taught us all so well that we don’t feel the need for these lessons - which can’t be true).

I know it features on the homepage but perhaps you should highlight clearly the fact that it’s for Complete Beginners. I don’t feel the current ‘blurb’ does this.

    Thanks for the comment, Barry!

I’ll see what we can do about emphasizing the “absolute beginner” nature of this blog.

Keep in mind that we’re following the university pace, so by next semester we’ll already be getting into Elementary lessons. As time goes by, you may find the content of the blog more relevant to your level.

    Hello,

ChinesePod is too much like a radio show. The male commenter is especially irritating. I don’t want a 30 seconds introduction with special sound effects and useless blabla, if you could get straight on to the lessons, I’d prefer that.

Right now, ChinesePod might be something I’d like to listen to while driving a car, because of its slow peace and all the filler put in, but it’s not a good resource for focused learning.
