Level 1, Lesson 1: Review

Lesson 1 of Integrated Chinese starts off with a big vocabulary bang, so you’ll be wanting a tool for audio review. That’s where ChinesePod’s “the Fix” comes in.

Two words you’ll find missing in the Fix for Lesson 1 are the sentence-final particles 吗 (ma) and 呢 (ne). This is because these words are rarely if ever used on their own, and it’s just plain weird to memorize them individually. We strongly recommend you memorize them as integral parts of short phrases and questions, such as the ones given in the sample sentences for each word: and .

The other vocab is in the Fix. Like last time, there are two of them, a long one and a short one:

Please share any feedback you have, folks. We may be producing review materials for Integrated Chinese with uncanny precision and efficiency over here, but we’re not robots, so we’re happy to hear the opinions of real people. Let us have them!

Thanks for putting those audio review materials together. I’m not an Intergrated Chinese user, but I love the idea of ‘the Fix’ and I found these useful as a review. Good spacing of pauses and repeats. I tend to think full sentences or expressions are probably more effective than individual words. Are there any plans to use ‘the Fix’ elsewhere in Chinesepod? I hope so.

    Hi John,

I love the daily podcast, but I decided to try this blog to fill in some holes, and I have to say that the structure is a nice change. With this I feel like I’m working both sides of my language-learning brain, keep up the excellent work! Oh and thank you so much for posting the Chinese Christmas carols, my kids are listening to them nonstop. (Can you die from an overdose of Ding Ding Dong?)
