Quick reminders

… from the ChinesePod factory

We’re hitting 500: In exactly 3 days, our podcast lessons will total to 500! It is indeed a staggering achievement and we would like to thank everyone for continuing to send in their lesson ideas as well as their comments, opinions and suggestions! To mark our 500th podcast, we will be releasing a new Bittorent file on Thursday containing the 401st - 500th podcasts to help you download and take all those podcasts on the go.

FYI: Most Bittorrent clients these days also offer a ’select download’ feature wherein you have the option to choose only those files you want to download within a certain Bittorrent file. For more information about Bittorrent, click here.

ChinesePod newsletter: We have successfully sent out our 3rd CPod newsletter to everyone last week. Every month starting February, we will be sending you a monthly newsletter containing more juicy information straight from the (CPod) factory! If you want to subscribe to our future issues, please go to your profile page and put a check mark on the ‘other email notifications’ option.

Another number: the forums broke 1,200 members yesterday, which exactly one month since they broke the 1,000 mark. That’s exponential!

    Bazza,

Does ‘lurker’ mean that they have registered but never commented?

    Yes, Ken.

Charles, almost all of the spammers/trolls are deleted before being approved, the user count doesn’t increase until we approved them.

We are very strict on approval, the idea is to be strict even if it means that we delete someone by accident. So now we are fairly sure that most of are users are serious about their being a member of the forum. Granted, a lot of them are ‘lurkers’ and will probably never comment or participate. But that is normal, we see it in other forums too. Why do they bother to register? Well, we don’t have a lottery, there are no special prices to win, but registering offers some advantages, for one you can see what new messages were posted since you last visited the forum.

Personally I think it is very encouraging to see that quite some native Chinese speakers register and participate in the dicussions. I guess quite a number of these see the forum as a way to improve their English skill, but having said that it is a big plus to have their opinion, translations, etc as input.
