Weekly update

It’s all about the community this week!

ChinesePod Community page: Do you have any photos of yourselves that you’d like to share with the community? How about a photo album from your last trip to China or maybe even a cute picture of your newly adopted Chinese daughter / son? If you have them uploaded on your Flickr account, all you need to do is tag them as “ChinesePod” and watch as they magically appear in our community photo section!

ChinesePod Youtube account
: We still love Aric but from here on out, we will be uploading our video snippets on the official ChinesePod Youtube account so if you haven’t subscribe to that channel yet, you can do so now!

Forum Toolbar: The Cpod community continues to amaze as Fu Da Wei, together with Bazza, came up with a great little forum toolbar packed with an RSS reader and radio player. You can download it here or you can head to the forum thread to read about it here. Trust me, it works great!

Coming Soon: Kenta started the trend and now others are joining in his ranks! Antonio Vergara and Christian Mondorf are fellow Cpodders who have risen up to the challenge of producing a Spanish blog and a French blog respectively under the ChinesePod banner. It will be up real soon so watch out for it. In the meantime, send them some good vibes!

Community features wish list: Last week, people sent in their requests for a universal Chinesepod “log in” feature and it got me thinking, what would be other features that we can possibly add in the future to further enhance the community aspect of ChinesePod? We have the photo section, blogs, forum, and the wiki but we can still do more. How do you feel about being able to track comments by users such as “theabc” in the forums or “Henning” in the blogs? Send in your opinions, let’s get the ball rolling!

- Eileen

Side note: Rian, your lovable ex-intern, is back in the office. Send him some shout outs!

Also, with a lot of help from daoxunchang and 正在看牡丹 the Chinese language version of the forum is now much improved. So if you’re familiar with the layout of the forum why not give it a try in Chinese? :)

To all CPOD, I have a lot of ideas to put in place in the new spanish blog, but any suggestion is very welcome. Thanks.

Thanks for the introduction, Ken! I’m really excited to be a part of the team and start on this new adventure. The inaugural post up over at the french blog so everyone’s welcome to drop by and say hello.

You’ve set a really high standard in your own blog, so I hope to be able keep up.

Mucho gusto, Antonio. Seremos vecinos de blog, asi que te deseo mucho exito con tu nuevo blog y pasa a vernos cuando quieras!

Sorry, Eileen, I thought Ken was signing that last post. I hope the rest of my time here on Cpod will be more successful than that little misstep. :o)

Welcome back Rian. So if you’re back in the office, are you no longer an ex-intern? And what does that make the new interns :)

Welcome to fellow new bloggers, Antonio and Christian! I’d be really interested in brainstorming a way to get some cross-pollination going between us. Let’s put our heads together and see if we can coordinate our efforts now and then. You can have a look at my English-language blog for ChinesePod over here.

And hey, Rian! Welcome back! How long will you be staying?

Great update, Eileen! I’m excited to see what the future holds for ChinesePod!

  7. 7 Christian Dec 2nd, 2006 at 1:24 pm

    How ya doin’, Frank?

Thanks for the good vibes! I’m already a reader of your blog :)

I’ve given the cross-pollination issue some thought as well. I have a post in the pipeline on the possibilities for learning chinese in Chile, France, and Germany, some lessons from that, and some predictions for the future. Perhaps we can widen that a bit and do some kind of broader comparison.

Anyway, I’m sure we’ll come up with something in time.

    Cheers!

    Guys,

It’s fantastic to see the ChinesePod bloggers getting together like this. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to assist. I’ll try to share some of my blogging experiences/insights with you in the coming weeks. I hope you guys wil do the same. Hey, it’s all learning, right?

    Eileen –

How about a page that contains a list of hyperlinks to all the Lesson Comments made during the current day (rather than just “recent comments” where things quickly scroll away). Since the current day is relative to your time zone and since you may want to see another day, how about a calendar control to jump around between dates. I think you must already have something like this in order to keep up with answering all the comments that are in the hopper.

I would also like to follow all of, for example, John’s Lesson Comments. (WoW!)

And, finally, a full-text search through the Lesson Comments would be great!

Ok, if you guys think of having a portuguese blog, remember me! I have started a podcast for portuguese speakers to teach chinese, called 说汉语-为人民服务. I will do a opensource free podcast once a week I am doing with a chinese girl I met at the babel service chinesepod pointed me. Well, good to see we are taking the world!

That makes Rian an ex-ex intern or and ex squared intern or simply just a square! :-)

  12. 12 Rian the ?? Dec 3rd, 2006 at 12:50 pm

Gone for a few months and already considered square. :( Good to be back. I’ll be around until I go back to my home and native land in April. Doing a bit of a different job though, so I guess “the Intern” title doesn’t fit anymore.

    Rian,

I think that Ed is a mathematician and calculated your value as being squared its original value :)
BTW, I checked out your blog (http://www.rian.ca) and loved the story – “Spitting” –which I thought was a riot.
It also helps to further illuminate (as if it were needed) Aric’s disgustingly hilarious story on this week’s Saturday Show, by coincidence.
So, on behalf of myself, welcome back!

Just kidding around Rian, welcome back!

    Christian, Antonio and Frank,

It’s awesome that you guys are thinking about brainstorming together. Since I’m managing your blogs on this end, if there’s anything you need, just email me!:D

    Bazza,

Oooppsss… I forgot to thank our chinese forum friends, thanks for mentioning it!:D

    Delta,

Thanks for the suggestions. We actually use RSS feeds to keep track of everyone’s comments abut those are great ideas! I especially like the idea of tracking John’s lesson comments, that’s invaluable to any user for sure!

    Mario,

Thanks for the offer! If there is a space open for a portugese ChinesePod blog, I’ll be sure to contact you first!

haha, ya I notice since Eileen put my link up I’ve suddenly gained an audience on my blog… that could be good or bad. Thanks for reading though and don’t mind my spelling and grammar!
