Sex blog triggers manhunt in Shanghai

HONG KONG: Incensed netizens in Shanghai have launched a manhunt for a Western expatriate English tutor who posts a blog chronicling his sexual conquests with the city’s racy young girls, including some of his former students.

The sexually graphic postings — and some gratuitous criticism of Chinese men, society and the polity — by the blogger, identified only by the handle ‘Chinabounder’, have enraged mainland Chinese netizens, who have resolved to identify and “kick the foreign trash out of China”.

Peking Duck has more, including as link to the original site, that alas no longer works.

There’s also this site, focused on putting the finger on the sex blogger. Eeeeeekkkk!!!! Don’t look at the first comment on the site.

KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK … Uh, Chinabounder … there’s 17 million people outside who want to talk to you …

And not that I’m encouraging anyone to read a racey and salacious stuff … but … for purely academic reasons, I might note that if one were to go to google and enter “Chinabounder” his currently locked webpage should be the first link. If you really want to read it, here’s a hint: click the “CACHED” option.

Why should they condemn him simply for exercising freedom of speech and nurturing relationships with Chinese women ?

Lots of people use blogs to make statements, politically incorrect or otherwise.

I’m happy I’m living in the good ‘ole U. S. of A. where we can boast of our sexual exploits to our hearts content.

Seems like the Chinese men are over-reacting because their fragile egos are hurt. Boo hoo.

All I can say is, be careful Ken. There’s a vigilante manhunt for someone who’s from Brittania and teaches English. This could get ugly for a lot of foreignors.

Ken, did you really get mixed up in that? Who’s pedant anyway.

    Kelso,

Definitely not! I guess we have a high profile now in Shanghai and someopne just threw that out. God knows who did it.

If this person was Chinese and writes about his sexual encounters with White women, do you think the Chinese public would be up in arms?

I read this blog at the weekend, I can’t say there was anything awful in it–at the end of the day it takes two to tango so he’s only partly to blame.

I haven’t read the blog, but according to the quote, it’s more than just a blog about his sexual conquests of Chinese women, it also comes with “some gratuitous criticism of Chinese men, society…” So to those who think this wouldn’t deservedly get a reaction out of the Chinese, do you think that white men wouldn’t raise a commotion if a black guy started a blog about bedding white women, and added snarky remarks about white guys to boot?

  12. 12 Elfdemon Aug 31st, 2006 at 10:37 am

no, they wont. Chinamen’s ego are fragile, White men’s are not.

Uh, yeah, sure Elfdemon. Whatever you say.

I think that you are all being insensitive to the history of china and foreign relation especially in Shanghai. Given it’s colonial past it is understandable that people would be upset. I as a Canadian living in multicultural society I see this kind of behavior from me but it is mostly with Japanese students here to teach English. Funnily enough even the some of the student complain about the “rice kings” that have “yellow fever”. I wouldn’t say that he doesn’t have a right to be engage in liaisons with who ever will have him but a lot of what he said is pretty offensive try replacing the word Chinese with Jewish, or Irish. Hunting him down is silly. But why should a western expect people in a foreign country to live by their rules and morals.

I would also say that have seen some of this behavior in China. I remember visiting my fiend in Beijing while she was there on exchange from University of British Columbia being Asian she was approached by two white men as we sat in a hotel lobby and waited for our friend who asked her if they would like to accompany her to their hotel room at that point my friend looked at me and told them we were both Canadians one of the two turned white as a sheet and apologized made some mumbling about being drunk while the other swore at us as he was dragged away by his friend (apparently we were tricking them). We both agreed it was sad to see people who should know better behaving in this way. It also proved the point of her prof just because your in China doesn’t make you a liberal open mined person. Chinabound make me reminds me of just how many people are still going to china with the white man’s burned of being a “liberating force” and it too bad if the locals don’t like.

I wouldn’t say that he doesn’t have a right to be engage in liaisons with who ever will have him but a lot of what he said is pretty offensive try replacing the word Chinese with Jewish, or Irish. Hunting him down is silly. Maybe one should be asking why if we chooses live in a foreign country do we expect them to have our values.
