Google takes on Microsoft

Google

According to Michael Arrington at Tech Crunch, Google is now openly attacking Microsoft’s office suite with its new apps.

Who will win this battle? Who should win this battle? What do y’all think?

I should win. I don’t care which company comes out ahead, as long as it benefits me in the end. I like Microsoft because they are really user friendly, although most of their applications are not feature-rich. Plus, since I work in technology, they send me free stuff (so far I’ve received Office, XP Pro, MapPoint, Works Suite, and Digital Image Suite=altogether about $1200). Google has a lot of free-for-everyone apps, and that’s always cool. Google Earth is hands down my favorite free app, because I forgot how much Keyhole was selling it for, but it was a depressingly high amount for a product I really wanted.
Although I have to say that I am really uninterested in any Google office products, since OpenOffice (www.openoffice.org) has been available for a long time now, always free, no ads, completely customizable.
So like I said, I don’t really care if Google amasses a giant force of open-source cyborgs and battles against Microsoft’s army of warrior lawyers, as long as I can get software for cheap in the aftermath. Now there would be a cool photoshop image…

Okay, I just took a look at the video at CNET:

I didn’t know these apps were for your domain! That’s pretty cool. However I find it ironic that Microsoft sponsored the video.

    I like anything that’s open-source. I’m a hippy-commie type-a guy.
