I was actually born another planet in another solar system approximately 463 light years from Earth. I can’t tell you the name of planet as it can’t be translation in any Earth languages.

BTW, I think if you haven’t already, should put some work into search optimization. I entered ’study Chinese’ in both Yahoo and Google and you guys weren’t at the top of the list. With your consistant online presence you really should be. Search optimization, get to the top of that list where you deserve to be.

Do you think it’s the Pope listening to Cpod on his iPod?

    Lantian,

I know that we’re not strong in search optimization (SEO). The fact is that the strong players that show up on Google search have existed since the mid 90s. It is hard to unseat many of these incumbents. We’ve been slowly moving up the rankings in Google but not as fast we should. The options are to (a) hire an SEO specialist [can’t find a good one], or (b) use black hat tactics to try to game Google [too dangerous - you can get banned for that]. We show more prominently on Yahoo, but Google is the one to beat.

If it is the Pope listening to us, he’ll probably end up teaching us. The guy speaks about a zillion languages.

    Hi Bazza,
how many tones does your language have?

  9. 9 Bazza Jul 28th, 2006 at 1:51 pm

It doesn’t have any tones, it’s not a vocal language. ;)

WORDS WORK - Back in July 2006 I suggested some search optimization was called for, you’all said, ohh it takes years to get up in the ranks, some sites have been there since the 90’s. Ah-huh.

Well, look we’re you’re at now, less than one year later. (see stats below) Cpod is ‘learning’ but is it ’studying’?

Nobody can rest on their laurels, and I’ve noticed how Cpod has improved the new copy for the intros with each podcast.

    A suggestion:

-use the word ’study’ more. The intro texts are now all quite interesting and include the words ‘mandarin’ and ‘learn’…but not ’study’. You do want to move up in that ranking also right?

One of Cpod’s greatest strengths is the fresh, daily content (which includes that searchable intro text), and both people and search engines like that. Mix it up a bit with ’study’.

If you also go back and re-write some of the intros to include ’study’ don’t do it all in one go, just do a small percentage and increment it slowly. As you already hold the high-rank for ‘learn’ I’d suggest the best next-step is to put ’study’ in more of your new podcasts.

There’s nothing ‘blackhat’ about this, just getting the word out on stuff you really have. :)
    Google:
    chinese podcast #1
    learn chinese #1
mandarin chinese # on the first page
study chinese # not in the top 10

    Yahoo:
    chinese podcast #1
    learn chinese #6
    mandarin chinese #19
study chinese # not in the top 10
