On Demand Training

I’ve written some articles/posts over at the On Demand Training blog about how podcasting will change the nature of the language training business. What we’re doing here is pretty revolutionary, because it creates a wholly new supply chain/value chain and a new way to consume training. It’s a kind of web 2.0 solution whose time has come. If it’s not us, then there are plenty of others who will change the way that training and distance learning is done. The idea is to offer the learner fresh, relevant content with as much flexibility and support as he could need to consume it. As I see it, no other method is able to do anything like this.

Could be the start of something big.

I was so sceptical about this method at first. I think that interaction with the teachers is quite important when studying languages and thought that this would be a “one way”-method. Wow, I was so wrong! The way you interact with users through comments and mail (and hopefully a forum to make it more structured in the next version of this site) is amazing. Bringing up requested topics, changing the style of the lessons, adjusting difficulty levels etc. Maybe the most responsive teachers I’ve “met” so far!

    David,

Thx. It has become clear to me that the interactive forum is the way to go. In fact, we have plans to go onbe step further by organizing users to meet with other users and conduct practice sessions. That’s in the pipeline, but it won’t take too long.

Ken Carroll discusses issues concerning learning generally, and learning Mandarin in particular. With technology as the driver, he believes the most effective learning combines elements of collaboration with self-direction. If that seems like a contradiction, then you need to read the blog.
